About Hannah

A teacher at heart, a maker by hand.

Hem & Gather is taught by Hannah, a certified teacher who believes people learn best when they are patiently shown how to understand the work for themselves.

Her story

She wants to teach you to fish.

Hannah loves to sew, and she loves to teach. The old saying says, "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." That is the heart behind her classes.

She does not want students to leave with only one finished project and a foggy memory of how it happened. She wants them to understand the machine, the fabric, the pattern, the mistake, the fix, and the next brave step.

Why Hem & Gather

For the person who wants to make, but needs a gentle beginning.

Hannah started Hem & Gather because sewing can feel intimidating from the outside. Machines have tension knobs, fabric stretches in mysterious ways, and online tutorials move faster than a real beginner can breathe.

Her studio creates a slower way in. A place to gather around a table, ask questions, practice care, and learn a skill that still matters because fabric is everywhere and people still make beautiful things from it.

What guides the studio

  • Clear teaching over rushed demonstrations.
  • Small groups that feel personal and peaceful.
  • Creative control, practical skill, and durable confidence.
  • Handmade work that honors patience, thrift, and meaning.

Come learn at the table.

Classes are small by design, so every student has room to ask, try, unpick, laugh, and keep going.
